west of Frankfurt, 27 January 1945
On January 27th, 1945, the newly formed and incomplete "Kurmark" PzG.
division was sent east of the Oder with orders to stop the advance of 1st
Guards Tank Army racing for the bridges over the Oder just east of
Frankfürt. This division, formed from KG "Langkeit" set up a weak
defensive perimeter along all likeable avenues of approach. But instead
of stopping the Guards 9th Mechanised Corps it soon found itself
executing a fighting withdrawal.
