19 July, 1944 Bourguebus Ridge, 9km south of Caen, France: [Best played as Allied or vs Human] On the second day of Field Marshal Mongomery's 'Operation Goodwood,' the Germans were steadily driven out of Caen by the Canadian II Corps, but the Germans were determined to hold the high ground south of the city known as Bourguebus Ridge. The preceeding day the British had lost over 200 tanks and 1,500 men without achieving a decisive breakthrough. The German Tigers and Panthers backed by 88mm guns formed a ring of steel around the ridge and the network of fortified hamlets at its base. Throughout the 19th some of the most famous regiments in the British and Canadian Armies -the Canadian Black Watch, Essex Scots, and the British 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry- faced off against the cream of the German armored forces -the 1st SS 'Leibstandarte' and the newly arrived 12th SS 'Hitlerjugend' Divisions. After weeks of savage and bloody fighting the British christened Caen "The Crucible." Autor: "The Crucible of Caen" version 1.0 Updated: 27 May 00 by Don 'Panzertruppen' Maddox DonM@theBlitz.org This scenario is best played as Allied or against human opponent. It is well suited for team PBEM. Four players would be a good start - one Canadian player, one British player, and the German forces split between the 272nd Infantry Division and 1st SS Panzer, and the second German player commanding the 12 SS Panzer and Kampfgruppe von Luck.
