14. April 1945 On April 14th 1945, SE of the city Uelzen in the "Lueneburger Heide", was one of the last Tankbattles on the western front. General of the Panzertruppe Karl Decker got the orderwith his XXXIX. Panzerkorps to protect Uelzen and to take Stadesen and Nettelkmp. But his Korps was just only a Regiment and the british troops had the 15. Scots Div. In the morning of April 14th the "Scots Grd" tanks and the "Highlanders" Inf. were moving along the Reichsstrasse 191 to Uelzen. They thought they were safe, but they met the Inf.Div. "Schlageter" and the Pz.Div. "Clausewitz". This Pz.Div. of Generalleutnant Unrein had only some Hetzers. The last chance for Decker was the PzJgAbt. "Grossdeutschland" and the PzGrenBtl "Feldherrnhalle". Decker knew that this battle will be the death for many of his soldiers. He could not get over with this fact so he chose the suicide.
